As part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Congress enacted a program to encourage economic development in low-income communities designated as “opportunity zones”.  The tax incentives available to opportunity zone investors can benefit small business owners by (i) allowing them to sell their businesses tax-free and (ii) making their businesses more competitive when raising capital.
