John G. Paré

John Paré

After proudly serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II, John Paré began a long legal career. He spent many years as an attorney for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, but his commitment to the law and his community extended well beyond his day job.

John is remembered for his dedication to helping those in need, which led to his involvement with Bay Area Legal Services for over three decades. John served on our Board of Directors, including a term as Chairman, and was a founder of our Development Council. He generously contributed many hours of pro bono service, earning the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Award for the 13th Judicial Circuit in 1989.

In addition to his passion for legal aid, John was an avid athlete with a particular love for tennis. He also biked long distances well into his 80s and was instrumental in lobbying for car-free bike trails in his community. A dedicated environmentalist, John believed that "one should walk softly upon the earth," and lived accordingly. He was also actively involved in his church and his local Homeowners Association Board.

John and his wife, Carol, both steadfast supporters of Bay Area Legal Services, donated substantial philanthropic support over the years. Today, their legacy continues through our everyday work creating pathways to justice for low-income individuals.

John Paré was a good man. I worked with John, a volunteer par excellence, for almost 30 years. His generosity, his pro bono legal work and his leadership greatly benefitted Bay Area Legal Services and its clients."
