Bay Area Legal Services is seeking to fill a full-time temporary Social Services Coordinator position in the Ruskin Office.

Current grant funding expires 9/30/2022, additional funding available.  Application in process.

This position acts as a liaison between the Team Leader, Project Manager, other team members, interns, and agencies associated with the Disaster Relief Team’s assigned grant. The position will involve assisting victims of natural disasters to successfully identify and address the non-legal needs or issues that might impede clients’ post-disaster stabilization. This includes support to complement the legal services of volunteer attorneys by developing an individual plan to improve clients’ well-being by connecting them with appropriate social services and community resources. The position will include a variety of support tasks in grant submission and maintenance assigned to Team Leader/Project Manager such as monitoring grant deliverables and preparing periodic grant reports. Additionally, the position will involve administrative support tasks such as file maintenance, client correspondence, and organizational matters.

Illustrative Duties:

  • Conduct client intake to ensure project eligibility and complete formal assessment of non-legal needs.
  • Work with project clients to develop an individualized case plan to address the non-legal assistance needs through a social services navigation process.
  • Connect clients to community resources relevant to their needs and thoroughly explain those services.
  • Assist with clients’ applications for appropriate community resources.
  • Research community resources for client needs. Create and maintain updated service area Resources Databank/reference guide.
  • Coordinate and assist with grant reporting and track relevant data for Disaster Relief Team assigned grant(s).
  • Provides administrative support for the DR team, field calls, and manages correspondence from project team members etc. and other administrative tasks to support the Disaster Relief Team as needed.
  • Provide support for grant-related tasks
  • Attend relevant trainings and events, including community outreach and events focused on identifying potential clients.
  • Maintain Project’s client files and Project entries in case management system.
  • Perform other duties as designated by supervisor.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Human Services or related field preferred) and minimum 1-year (2 years preferred) of experience related to social or community services or a similar position and experience with administrative support.
  • Bachelor’s degree can be substituted for:  High school diploma or equivalency, 2 years of experience related to social or community services or a similar position and experience with administrative support.
  • Intermediate Knowledge Level in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of legal documents, procedures and terminology.  
  • Basic knowledge of case management systems and accurately tracking and processing legal case data using these systems.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field          
  • 2 years of experience in a non-profit organization in a similar role
  • Fluency in Spanish
