Bay Area Legal Services is seeking to fill a full-time Development Marketing Specialist position in its Ybor City office.

This position is responsible for strategic planning and execution of marketing & development (fundraising), communications, & community outreach to support the overall business strategy. This position develops and implements strategic fundraising plans that support the organization’s annual fundraising goals. This role is responsible for the expansion of fundraising efforts with a strong focus on direct mail, email marketing, targeted web campaigns and major gift campaigns as well as planned giving opportunities, to attract new donors and enhance support from existing donors.  This position must have strong writing, editing and graphic design skills and will be responsible for writing, creating, and distributing case for support materials. In addition, this position consults with the organization’s strategic staff and partners including, the Board of Directors (BOD), Development Council Members, Executives and key staff to execute strategies.  Collaboratively develops strategic fundraising plans to significantly increase the portfolio of individual donors with a focus on building support across a diverse range of opportunities. This role will guide and manage the expansion of a consistent individual donor solicitation process (from outreach to measurable outcomes) in a timely manner, while ensuring accountability and integrity.

Illustrative Duties

  • Campaign planning, strategic fundraising, communication strategy- In collaboration with management, develop and implement a marketing plan. Create a clear roadmap that includes defining target audiences, articulating mission and vision, crafting messages, and developing strategies as well as a timeline for implementation. Manage annual campaigns from start to finish. Create fundraising opportunities through various development techniques including prospecting, targeted follow-up and new lead generation. 
  • Marketing, brand management, graphic design, etc. - Manage marketing/PR efforts while maintaining brand integrity and consistency. Create graphic design materials, e-blasts, case for support flyers, booklets, direct mail campaigns, etc. Assist Development staff in identifying speaking opportunities and community growth opportunities. 
  • Data analysis & reporting - Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing campaigns. Assist in creating reports to be generated regularly to reflect on the overall success of campaigns. Produce targeted lists for current and potential campaign analysis. Ensure that best practices are in place for campaign tracking in order to guarantee that our reporting is accurate. Produce (writing and design) quarterly and annual reports to reflect on annual giving and campaign standings, populations served, and other relevant data while collaborating with other team members. Analyze donor trends and current data to identify trends and prospects to form the direction of giving programs. Utilize data from constant contact, social media, and Comp. website in conjunction with the donor management system.
  • Donor relations & board communication - Facilitate and attend meetings with donors, board members, and staff to communicate the mission of Bay Area Legal. Develop cultivation strategies for segmented groups and ensure execution of strategies. Build relationships and accountability systems to ensure supporters are engaged and our mission is clearly articulated.
  • Train and support other staff members as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA or BS in communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, English, Journalism and Minimum of 3 years in a similar role or at least 5 years prior Development/marketing/communications experience required
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe design programs including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Experience with marketing programs such as Constant Contact and analytic programs such as Excel.  Knowledge and experience with social media platforms. 
  • Excellent writing skills, with experience writing in all mediums. 
  • Demonstrated strong writing, editing and graphic design skills and will be responsible for writing, creating, and distributing case for support materials.
  • Experience writing for the media, including web content and press release distribution. 
  • Experience executing fundraising events and campaigns from start to finish.
  • Intermediate Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Power Point.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in non-profit organization or Law firm. 
  • Experience with database management platforms, Raiser’s Edge Experience preferred.


  • Starting salary is $42,400 (increases based on relevant experience)
