The Volunteer Lawyers Program offers free training in a variety of practices and specialties to meet the needs of volunteer attorneys.

The following free training is available through our Program.

Disaster Relief Pro Bono Training

Disaster relief cases can span the spectrum of legal issues. Bay Area Legal Services' Disaster Relief Team has compiled several resources to help volunteer attorneys familiarize themselves with some of the most common problems facing our disaster relief clients. The pro bono training resources include five videos and links to additional resources. Basic Guardian Advocacy Training

Prepares pro bono and legal aid attorneys on how to prepare for and present a guardian advocacy case. A commitment to handle a pro bono case within 12 months required. Mentor assistance provided.

No Place Like Home … If You Can Prove Title

Prepares attorneys to handle pro bono title issues for both real property and mobile homes. A commitment to handle a pro bono case within 12 months required. Mentoring provided to assist attorneys upon completion of the training.

Basic Family Law Training

Prepares non-family law attorneys to handle pro bono low-income family law matters. Materials and mentoring provided to assist the attorney after the training. A commitment to handle a pro bono case within 12 months required.

Domestic Violence Assistance Project Training

Offers a one-hour training DVD to assist victims of domestic violence complete form petitions for injunctions.

Family Forms Clinic Training

Offers a one-hour training to prepare volunteers to assist pro-se litigants with Supreme Court approved Family Law forms.

Client Intake Training

Designed to training attorneys how to interview and advise legal aid applicants during the client intake process.
