Medical-Legal Partnership with James A. Haley VA (3 Locations)
Qualifying Veterans enrolled for care at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital or the New Port Richey or Zephyrhills VA outpatient clinics may walk in and be served on a first-come, first-served basis, or call the Veterans Legal Helpline at 1-866-486-6161 (Call Center open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to request an appointment during the appointment windows listed below.
The Medical-Legal Partnership between James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Bay Area Legal Services’ Veterans Law Center is designed to provide low-income Veterans enrolled for care at Haley or at the New Port Richey or Zephyrhills outpatient clinics with access to free, free on-site legal advice when they cannot otherwise afford a lawyer.
Because this is an on-site clinic, assistance may be limited to advice, brief services, and limited representation in select matters.
Legal problems can include veterans benefit applications and appeals, discharge upgrades, character of discharge filings, sealing/expungement, consumer matters, family law, advanced directives, housing, and more.
Note: clinic attorneys do not advise on cases involving criminal law, domestic violence, personal injury claims (car accidents, slip and falls, etc.), traffic law, or employment law, but we do offer referrals to practitioners in those fields upon request.
Eligibility limits do apply. Services are free for eligible clients. We will determine whether you are eligible for services when you walk-in or when you call to schedule an appointment. Eligibility is based on income and assets and will be confirmed before services are provided. All cases are subject to a conflict check, and calling does not guarantee representation. If you do not qualify for our services, we can still provide you with referral information to applicable private practitioner directories upon request.
A formal referral is not required. All patients of the Haley Veterans’ Hospital System may call us for an appointment. Veterans enrolled for care at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital or the New Port Richey or Zephyrhills VA outpatient clinics may call the Veterans Legal Helpline to request an appointment. Appointments are subject to availability.
