2021 National Day of Service: Corporate Governance Check-Up for Nonprofits
The Judge Don Castor Community Law Center and Exponentum™—a national network of business law pro bono providers—are uniting for a National Day of Service, with the common goal of serving nonprofits throughout the country. In Florida, this legal clinic will help local nonprofit organizations assess and improve their governance systems and practices.
Issues covered will include:
- Maintaining Florida corporate status and IRS tax-exempt status
- Board operations and governance policies
- Financial management and fiscal governance
- IRS operational and fundraising-related requirements
About the Clinic
Attendees will have the opportunity to receive guidance on good governance practices as well as a private virtual consultation with a team of business law attorneys who will address your organization's practices and provide the legal advice you need to ensure you are in compliance and are prepared for the ever changing risks of doing business. You will have an opportunity to review your nonprofit's current policies and procedures with your legal team in order to flag areas where you may need to make changes.
After this legal clinic, your organization may request additional assistance through the Judge Don Castor Community Law Center to follow up on legal issues identified in the course of the attorney consultation.
Who Should Attend
We welcome the executive director, board members or senior managers of your organization. Nonprofits that serve low income families, seniors, the elderly and veterans will be given priority, but any local nonprofit is encouraged to register.
