Karen and Bob Buesing's Lifetime Gift Boosts Access to Justice Through Generous Contribution
Bay Area Legal Services is excited to announce a generous contribution from longtime supporters Bob and Karen Buesing, who have accelerated their planned giving to make an immediate impact on our mission.
This year, the Buesings contributed an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) gift of $50,000 ($25,000 each) to the Richard C. Woltmann Endowment, helping to secure vital legal services for those in need.
Originally committed as a planned legacy gift, Karen and Bob chose to expedite their support upon becoming eligible for QCD distributions, prioritizing immediate action over waiting.
"Of course, we’re thrilled to see these funds support the endowment honoring Dick," Bob said. "By contributing 10, 20, or even 30 years earlier than planned, the endowment can grow faster over time, allowing the money to make an even greater impact."
Their commitment doesn’t stop there: over the next three years, they have pledged an additional $150,000 ($75,000 each), further enhancing Bay Area Legal Services’ ability to serve our community.
As the Buesings planned for retirement, giving back was a top priority. They discovered the QCD option, which enables individuals over 70½ to donate pre-tax dollars directly from their IRA while lowering required minimum distributions. With this tax-free giving opportunity, they saw a meaningful way to support a cause close to their hearts by putting their savings to work for Bay Area Legal.
Beyond their financial contributions, Karen and Bob have long advanced our mission through pro bono services, mentoring fellow attorneys, and championing our fundraising efforts. Their sustained generosity and partnership fortify our organization’s future and allow us to keep growing.
