The Legal Services Corporation’s Visit to Tampa Highlighted Pro Bono and Disaster Relief Efforts

Bay Area Legal Services welcomed LSC’s Board of Directors and staff during their first-ever quarterly board meeting and corresponding event schedule in Tampa. The visit included discussions on legal aid programs, disaster relief efforts, and pro bono service contributions.

LSC’s Forum on Disaster Legal Services – January 27th

On Monday, LSC hosted its Forum on Disaster Legal Services, which featured a presentation by Bay Area Legal’s Jason Susalla. The forum also included a panel discussion with Jason and other disaster relief legal aid advocates from Florida. 

Pro Bono Service Awards Reception – January 27th

LSC’s Pro Bono Service Awards Reception sponsored by Foley & Lardner LLP was held Monday evening to recognize pro bono contributions by individuals nominated by Bay Area Legal and other Florida-based LSC-funded legal aid organizations.

Bay Area Legal nominated two Champion of Justice Legal Services Award recipients:

Attorney Mark Wolfson, who has provided more than 630 hours of pro bono service at Bay Area Legal and championed pro bono efforts among his colleagues and peers.

Senator Ashley Moody, who has supported pro bono initiatives throughout her career, including volunteer work on domestic violence cases at Holland & Knight.

LSC Board Meeting: FosterPower Panel – January 28th

During the LSC Quarterly Board Meeting, Bay Area Legal staff members Taylor Sartor and David Gray presented on FosterPower: an app and movement to give children in foster care access to their rights. 

Taylor and David participated in a panel discussion, providing an overview of the program’s development, implementation, and impact.

The app was launched by LSC’s Technology Innovation Grant and has had over 4,000 downloads since its launch in May 2023.
