Staff Attorney-Plant City (Full-Time)

Bay Area Legal Services is seeking to fill a full-time Staff Attorney position in Plant City.

Staff Attorneys will facilitate or directly provide qualified legal services to low income clients to meet their civil legal needs.  One (1) open full-time position for a Staff Attorney to primarily provide representation to families with children from birth through 5th grade or expecting. This attorney will provide services for families residing in eastern portions of Hillsborough. Cases in litigation primarily take place in the Plant City courthouse, however they may occasionally take place in the main courthouse in Tampa. The Attorney in this position helps provide stability to those families who may have a housing, family law, or other legal need.  Many, but not all clients are victims of domestic violence and may be in need of supplemental community resources.  Bay Area receives funding from the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County to facilitate collaboration with community partners to provide comprehensive services to our clients.  This position requires travel to our Ruskin office one day per week.

Illustrative Duties:

  • Representation in civil court including emergency advocacy.
  • Provide counseling and advice to clients, some of whom speak English as a second language.
  • Referrals to and from social services agencies and various community partners in support of holistic assistance to those experiencing legal problems.
  • Periodic Community Outreach and participation in work related events.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • FL Bar License and in Good Standing, and Juris Doctorate

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience post bar admission, preferably in family law related areas of law.

Compensation: 

  • Starting salary $60,350.00/yr (increases based on relevant experience).  
  • Reimbursement for travel expenses for work events (mileage etc.)
