If you are not sure the amount of SNAP (Food Stamps) you receive is correct, you may want to contact your local legal services office or work with a DCF caseworker to review the SNAP worksheet that was used in calculating your benefits. Your benefits take into consideration household income, how many members are in the household, your shelter expenses, any out of pocket medical expenses, childcare expenses, and any child support you might be paying to someone outside of the household.
SNAP benefits are not expected to meet your entire food budget. SNAP expects families to spend about 30% of their net income on food. For example:
- The maximum benefit amount that a household of one could receive in 2019 is $194 a month.
- A maximum benefit for a household of three in 2019 is $509 a month.
